WSFC holds highly successful Ambition Event!
On Thursday, 22nd March Worcester Sixth Form College held a hugely successful Ambition Event with over 130 year 10 and 11 students and their families in attendance.
Guests were invited to attend a variety of subject workshops led by a tutor from one of the visiting universities alongside a member of College staff. We were appreciative of the advice given by Helen Brooks from Mansfield College, University of Oxford in her introductory session on making applications and HE finance.
Feedback was excellent with comments such as: “A very good introduction to what could be a very detailed topic”, “presentations were very informative and an excellent insight into higher education” and that it was “pitched at the right level for current experience”.
The event was an extension of the College’s support for students who are applying to the most competitive universities and courses. The College has an excellent reputation for helping students get places at top universities through careers and HE advice, the tutorial programme and subject-based guidance. The Ambition Programme enhances this support and inspires students to achieve their very best, to guide them in researching university options and helping them to develop confidence and flair in academic discussion.
Carla Maloney, second year student who has recently been offered a place at Cambridge University, said: “I am grateful for the amount of support I’ve had in my application to Cambridge University from Ruth Scotson and Paul Morris, who run the Ambition programme, and from my subject teachers. Having the preparation and encouragement from the College really aided me through the process.”
Thank you to the University of Oxford, Falmouth University, University of Nottingham, University of St Andrews, University of Birmingham, University of Worcester, University of Keele and Coventry University for contributing to the event to make it such a success.
