Annual Early Applicants Day inspires students!
On Wednesday, 4th September, second year Gifted and Talented Students at Worcester Sixth Form College started their new College year with a day aimed specifically at students who plan to apply for either Medicine, Veterinary Science or for courses at Oxford, Cambridge or other Russell Group universities.
These are students who are on course to achieve the highest grades at A Level and need to make their applications to universities before the deadline in mid-October. They have taken part in Summer Schools and Work Experience placements over the last few months but now need to make their final choices.
In the afternoon session students had the opportunity to quiz past students who are now studying at either Oxford or Cambridge.
Many of the students considering applying to the most competitive universities and courses participated in the College’s Ambition Programme last academic year which aims to make students more informed applicants and more attractive applicants to selective courses and institutions.
Ruth Scotson, Deputy Principal, said: “The College has an excellent reputation for helping students get places at top universities through careers and HE advice, the tutorial programme and subject-based guidance. The Ambition Programme enhances this support. It is not subject-specific and is open to students doing any course combination. Since September 2018 the programme has been supplemented by our work as the Worcestershire hub for HE+ that organises subject lectures with Cambridge University.”
We aim to inspire our students to achieve their very best, to guide them in their research into university options and to help them develop confidence and flair in academic discussion. Students will have access to talks on how to research competitive university places, contact with admissions advisers at competitive universities, information about masterclasses and subject days offered by top universities and help with applying for these, Open Day visits to Oxford and Cambridge and much more.
