WSFC holds event for county’s high fliers!
On Thursday, 18th March Worcester Sixth Form College held a successful Ambition Event with over 200 year 10 and 11 students and their families attending virtually.
India Collins-Davies, Outreach Officer from Oriel College, University of Oxford, delivered an introductory session on applying to university in addition to a workshop on applying to Oxbridge. Guests were then invited to attend a variety of subject workshops led by a guest speaker from one of the visiting universities alongside a member of College staff.
The event was an extension of the College’s support for students who are applying to the most competitive universities and courses. The College has an excellent reputation for helping students get places at top universities through careers and HE advice, the tutorial programme and subject-based guidance. The Ambition Programme enhances this support and inspires students to achieve their very best, to guide them in researching university options and helping them to develop confidence and flair in academic discussion. More than 130 students are participating in the Ambition Programme this year alone.
Ed Senior, Principal, said: “I was delighted that we were able to provide this opportunity to year 10 and 11 students albeit virtually. I am grateful to the record number of universities who participated this year for delivering such a valuable experience for all those who attended. I was also especially pleased to welcome former student, Dr Bethany Jones, to the event to run a workshop about applying for medicine.” He added: “This group of students have faced significant challenges over the past year, however, I am confident that they will emerge all the stronger for it having developed new skills and levels of resilience which will equip them well for their post-16 and university studies.”
Thank you to the University of Oxford, Aston University, University of Bristol, Cardiff University, Falmouth University, University of Nottingham, University of Birmingham, University of Worcester, University of Leicester, University of Exeter, Loughborough University, University of Liverpool, the University of South Wales and Worcestershire Acute Hospitals Trust for contributing to the event to make it such a success.
