Student at final stage for Water Polo team
Congratulations to Charlotte Martin who has reached the final stage in the qualification for the Great Britain U17 Women’s Water Polo team.
Charlotte, who has been part of National Academy since the age of 14, has already had tremendous success progressing to the National Squad in 2019 and subsequently qualifying for the European Championship with the Squad. Charlotte is one of only 20 members of the squad remaining and is participating in weekly training camps before the final 15 are selected in mid-July.
Charlotte explains that the camps involve swim tests and assessments in relation to accuracy, game awareness and the ability to work as a team. Charlotte said: “At my current level, I am expected to do a minimum of 12 hours training per week. This is a mixture of swimming, water polo training and some gym work too.” She adds: “My hope for the future is to carry on representing England/GB and, when I go to university, to participate in the University Games. Water polo isn’t just my hobby, it’s my passion. My aspiration is to be able to pass down my love of water polo to younger children which is why I am currently training to be an assistant water polo coach.”
We wish Charlotte well for the forthcoming final selections and look forward to celebrating her future successes.
