Young Enterprise team progress to West Midlands Final
Congratulations to this year’s Worcester Sixth Form College Young Enterprise team, Athena who won the creativity of business, innovation and overall company award at the Herefordshire and Worcestershire Final at County Hall on Thursday, 9th May and now progress to the West Midlands’ Final on 6th June in Birmingham. Their product, ‘My Amego’ – a small children’s toy that aims to promote mental wellbeing and build emotional and communicative skills – has received great acclaim.
The toy is a small plush character with a series of coloured pompoms corresponding to emotions. The team say that the child can zip the emotion they are feeling up and the caregiver can discuss their feelings with them. It is intended that this will help children who may find talking about, writing or expressing how they are feeling difficult.
Edward Senior, Principal, commented: “I am delighted at the entrepreneurial spirit demonstrated by the students and proud that they chose to respond to such an important issue for young people. When I attended the event last week I was extremely impressed with the maturity and professionalism of the students in their presentation. Their product reflects the interest that students at College, in general, have shown in response to mental health issues e.g. Mental Health Awareness activities including PAT dogs visiting College. Their commitment to raising awareness of these issues and doing something to improve young peoples’ wellbeing were demonstrated in their passion for their product.”
Congratulations and good luck!
Robin Walker MP has since written to congratulate the team on their success and has invited them to London for a tour of the Houses of Parliament.
